Dr Matt Holmes
Matt grew up in Adelaide where he completed a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Anatomy and Physiology in 1996. He then spent the next year undertaking an Honours project investigating assisted reproductive techniques in endangered marsupials, and graduated with First Class Honours. At that time, South Australia did not have a Veterinary Science school, so Matt emigrated to the Sunshine State to undertake a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland, which he graduated in 2002.
After graduating, Matt was lucky enough to gain a Small Animal Surgery Internship position at Queensland Veterinary Specialists in Brisbane, where he was taught by Dr Richard Eaton-Wells, Dr Richard Mitchell and Dr Maurine Thomson. In 2005, Matt travelled to the UK where he worked for 2 years as a small animal general practitioner with a special interest in surgery.
After arriving home in Australia in 2007, Matt became an associate veterinarian at North Lakes Veterinary Hospital where he had a large and varied surgery caseload, including referrals from other veterinary practitioners. In his “spare time”, Matt also performed surgery on an ad hoc basis at other general practices across Brisbane.
Matt continues to expand his surgery skills and education by undertaking hands on surgery courses and is accredited to perform radiographs for the PennHIP hip score scheme. Matt is the Director of Small Animal Surgery which is dedicated to providing surgery support to general veterinary practitioners across the South East of Queensland.
